I was standing backstage holding a vase...

Most people remember very clearly where they were and what they were doing in important moments in their lives. When my grandmother died, I was sleeping off a massive hangover from a party the night before on the cruise ship I was singing on. When the shuttle exploded right there on TV I was holding a laundry basket getting ready to go do laundry and I dropped it to the floor. When the towers fell, I was standing in my living room with tears streaming down my face and wondering where my New York friends were.

One of the most significant moments in my life happened so quietly that it was like a whisper that almost went unnoticed. I was standing backstage holding a vase and waiting for my cue to go on, when I really noticed another actor on the stage. We had been through the rehearsal process for weeks and he had always been really nice. But for some unknown reason, on this night during a performance, he caught my attention in a way that forever changed my path. I don't know if it was the way he was performing that night, or the fact that I was standing in a different place than I normally did and happened to see this scene from a different angle. But whatever it was, I was struck by a bolt of lightning that I never saw coming. I was just out of high school and completely love struck. He was an older man, married, and had the most amazing brown eyes and the best smile. When the scene was over, he came off stage right next to me. He looked at me and said "Hi." I stood there holding a vase and looking every bit the high school student and responded "Hi."

Over 30 years later, we are still very close. We have been through many life events together, marriages, children, divorces, deaths, love, hate, theatre, the list and the stories fill every one of those 30 plus years. This blog is to recapture those moments that happened after lightning struck. It's not always a pretty story and sometimes it's downright heartbreaking, but it's real, and it's true, and it's a wonderful testament to what the word soul mate means.

Shall we begin?...
